Njavara Kizhi (Shashtika Shali Pinda Swedam)
Ayurvedic Rejuvenation with Medicinal Rice Therapy

Njavara Kizhi (Shashtika Shali Pinda Swedam)

Nourishing Ayurvedic Rejuvenation Therapy

Njavara Kizhi is a unique Ayurvedic therapy that combines therapeutic heat with deep nourishment to rejuvenate the body and support overall wellness. This specialized treatment utilizes Njavara rice, a medicinal variety of rice highly regarded in Ayurveda for its strengthening and restorative properties.

Unlike conventional heat therapies that primarily focus on pain relief, Njavara Kizhi provides both nourishment and rejuvenation to the body's tissues. It is widely recommended for individuals experiencing weakness, neurological conditions, degenerative disorders, and musculoskeletal discomfort. The therapy helps improve strength, vitality, and functional mobility while promoting a sense of relaxation and well-being.

How the Therapy is Performed

The treatment begins with a full-body application of medicated herbal oil to prepare the tissues for therapy. Njavara rice is then cooked in herbal decoctions and milk until it reaches a soft consistency. The prepared rice is tied into cotton boluses and gently warmed.

The warm boluses are rhythmically massaged over the body or affected areas, allowing the nourishing properties of the rice and herbs to penetrate the tissues. Throughout the session, the boluses are repeatedly dipped in warm herbal liquids to maintain a comfortable temperature. At the conclusion of the therapy, the remaining rice paste is gently removed, followed by a soothing application of medicated oil.

Important Considerations

Njavara Kizhi is often administered during the final stages of an Ayurvedic treatment programme as a restorative and rejuvenating therapy. Since the treatment involves the use of milk and medicated rice preparations, some individuals may experience a mild cooling sensation during or after the session.

To ensure comfort and maximize therapeutic benefits, our therapists take appropriate measures to maintain body warmth throughout the treatment. Following the advice of the Ayurveda physician regarding diet, rest, and lifestyle can further enhance the effectiveness of the therapy and support long-term wellness outcomes.
